This is done in order to ensure that the management capacities of the secondary schools are able to guarantee improved delivery of the service. The current study aimed at examining the role and influence of managers in organizational performance in secondary school in Tanzania. Literature regarding the role and influence of school managers suggest that managers are very instrumental in driving the success of organizational performance in both public and private schools. The study employed cross-sectional research design while making use of questionnaires, interview guide and documentary review in the course of data collection. Data analysis has mainly been qualitative with compliment of some qualitative consideration. The findings of the study revealed that managers have the role to play and influence in organizational performance. However, it was observed that, schools and particularly students in the study area have experienced poor performance due to prevailing hindrances among school managers. Such drawbacks include: inadequate funding, limited trainings among school managers, and poor community participation in school meetings, poor motivation among teachers, and political interference in the management of schools. From the major findings above, it can be concluded that delays and inadequate provision of capitation grants from the government hinders the performance of managers from discharging their role in the school management. Therefore, the study recommends the following: provision of full-fledged capitation grants from central government to the respective schools; guaranteed community support to schools, non-interference of schools management by politicians, as well as, effective implementation of education policies by all education stakeholders.TanzaniaNjombe districtSecondary schoolsSecondary educationEducationOrganizational performanceSecondary education improvementSchool managementSecondary schools managementThe role and influence of managers in organizational performance: a case of selected secondary schools in Njombe district, TanzaniaDissertation
