Item Performance evaluation of WLAN indoor positioning system based on location fingerprinting: a case of Mbeya University of science and technology (MUST)(The University of Dodoma, 2016) Chintelele, Noel YohanaWireless indoor positioning systems have become very popular in recent years. These systems have been successfully used in many applications such as asset tracking and inventory management. Although satellite-based Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Cellular Networks (CNs) have empowered a variety of location based services but they do not work well in indoor environments where walls and excessive multipath objects greatly attenuate satellite and cellular signals. In most cases, the indoor positioning services based on fingerprinting depend on the available access points in the surrounding area. This research considers the impact of number of access points (APs) in WLAN indoor positioning systems based on fingerprinting. The analysis is based on deterministic approach. The measurable analysis of test results shows that the positioning performance/accuracy is greatly affected by the number of access points. If the number of APs increased with well distribution positioning error is marginal. Hence, by considering the adequate number of APs is guaranteeing an accuracy of an indoor positioning. The analysis could empower indoor positioning designer to enhance positioning performance and to model location fingerprinting based indoor positioning systems.
