Item Attribute control charts for the Dagum distribution under truncated life tests(Springer, 2019) Gadde, S. R.; Fulment, A. K.; Josephat, P. K.In this paper, an attribute control chart for lifetime of the product follows Dagum distribution under number of failures before a specified time period is proposed. The sensitivity of the proposed chart is studied using the average run length (ARL). The tables are presented for all shift sizes, different sample sizes, various values of shape parameters and specified ARL and shift constants. An application of the proposed control chart in industry for monitoring of non-conforming items is illustrated with simulation data.Item Design of multiple dependent state sampling plan application for COVID-19 data using exponentiated weibull distribution(Wiley, 2021) Gadde, S. R; Fulment, A. K.; Peter, J. KThe proposed sampling plan in this article is referred to as multiple dependent state (MDS) sampling plans, for rejecting a lot based on properties of the current and preceding lot sampled. The median life of the product for the proposed sampling plan is assured based on a time-truncated life test, when a lifetime of the product follows exponentiated Weibull distribution (EWD). For the proposed plan, optimal parameters such as the number of preceding lots required for deciding whether to accept or reject the current lot, sample size, and rejection and acceptance numbers are obtained by the approach of two points on the operating characteristic curve (OC curve). Tables are constructed for various combinations of consumer and producer’s risks for various shape parameters. The proposed MDS sampling plan for EWD is demonstrated using the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in China. The performance of the proposed sampling plan is compared with the existing single-sampling plan (SSP) when the quality of the product follows EWD.Item Is logic aspects incorporated in the teaching and students' assessment? Case study in secondary schools located in Dodoma Municipality, Tanzania(Danubian Studies and Research Center, 2017) Fulment, A. K.; Tibyehabwa, R. R.; Sangiwa, G. C.; Srivastava, B. B.The study assesses teacher’s use of logic in teaching and students' assignments, exercises, group work, test and examination. Every University in Tanzania has its own teachers' training curriculum; the way teachers are educated to meet challenges and still upholding teaching qualities is questionable. The study involved qualitative (focus group discussion and observation of students assessments) and quantitative (structured interview) design. The study noted that; majority of teachers lack sufficient logical knowledge of subject matter and do code switch between English and Swahili in teaching although Swahili is not language of instructing science subjects. The study revealed that teacher's use of logic in teaching and student’s assessment is not good and requires understanding of subject matter. Respondents recommend the use logic in the students’ assessment from simple to complex problems as logical skill acquisition. Something lacking in learners is problems solving skills, they rely on reading and memorizing solved questions instead of making logic from what they were taught. The study contributes significantly to understanding of students' learning and understanding as well as the teachers' teaching and students' assessing skills.Item Social determinants and attitudes of women on empowerment through microfinance institutions(Macrothink Institute, 2018) Josephat, P. K.; Fulment, A. K.; Matunga, B. N.Empowerment is a process, and it does not occur automatically. This has necessitated several studies to have different findings about the evidence for women empowerment. This is because empowerment is a continuous and constantly evolving process. This necessitates investigation of the factors which determine women empowerment in specific areas. This paper examined social factors which determine women empowerment in Kondoa District. Moreover, it establishes the level of attitude towards women empowerment. To determine factors and attitudes towards women empowerment, a survey was done at the household level for both women who are members and those who are not members of Microfinance Institutions in Kondoa District. A purposeful method was used to obtain a sample of 415 women involved in this study whereby 214 were members and 201 were nonmembers of financial institutions. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized to collect and analyse data. Eight factors were analyzed to establish their association with women empowerment. Out of the eight factors, only five factors which include marital status [OR = 1.207], level of education [1.122], number of years lived in the area (residence) [1.018], microfinance membership [2.462] and residence area (urban) [1.008] were positively associated with women empowerment. The women’s attitude towards their empowerment is positive contrary to most men. The study recommends women to work hard with financial support received as they are key players for their success.Item Subject examination content validity: Case study of national examination chemistry practical with in-service chemistry teachers in Dodoma (m), Tanzania(International Journal of Advanced Research and Review, 2018) Tibyehabwa, R. R.; Fulment, A. K.The present study assessed content validity of the National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) Chemistry Practicals Examination for Secondary Education in terms of topics represented in the examination. The study involved 30Chemistry teachers from 13 secondary schools in Dodoma(M), Tanzania. Data were gathered through questionnaires supplemented with focus group discussion, key informants, observation of 14 consecutive National Chemistry practicals examination past papers and examination format documents. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS and Excel packages to obtain data for computing Content Validity Ratio (CVR)according to Lawshe’s method. The CVR was -0.816 (CVR varies between1to -1; negative value indicate that at least half the subject experts rated the variables as not fundamental, and vice versa for positive value). The study further noted thatNECTA Chemistry practically examined topics isabout14.8% and 15.4% of the topics specified in the Chemistry syllabi for junior and senior secondary education respectively.Respondents recommend alternation of Chemistry topics in the national practical examination; to eradicate prediction of questions for next practical examination, provide students with relevant practical skills from various topics and enhances more teaching of science practicals in secondary schools. The study contributes to the understanding of laboratory-based teaching in secondary schools and topics which are examined in the NECTA Chemistry practical examination.Item Teacher's career performance in secondary education: Case study of teacher's psychology, ethics, moral and values in Dodoma (M), Tanzania(International Journal of Advanced Research and Publications, 2018) Srivastava, B. B.; Tibyehabwa, R. R.; Fulment, A. K.Every University in Tanzania has its own teachers' training program curriculum, and the way teachers are educated to meet challenges but still upholding the teaching professional is also questionable. The present study assesses teacher's moral, value, ethics, psychology and working morale in secondary education. The study involved structured questionnaire interview, focus group discussion and key informants study design. The study found that student behavior is influenced by both teacher's behavior and student's characteristic, teacher's moral, ethics, values and psychology is influenced by teacher's foundation from the training programs where as working morale is much affected with school climate and prevailing relationship between employers and employees. Problems of teachers ' salaries, job promotion, unsatisfactory teaching environment and lack of teachers' in-service training programs affect teacher's performance. The study further found that; teacher's organization and preparedness for class sessions, commitment to employer's goals, teacher-students counseling service or activities as well as teacher and student interactions depend on type of school ownership (government or private school). The study contributes significantly to the understanding of the contemporary state of teaching career and teachers' performance and challenges in secondary education in Tanzania.Item Women's empowerment and microfinance: Evidence from Kondoa district(Infinity Press, 2017) Kirigiti, J. P.; Fulment, A. K.; Matunga, B.One way of empowering women is through the provision of loans. There are gender stereotypical beliefs about abilities of women to effectively utilize only small loans and inability to engage in a profitable non-traditional self-employment. The study was conducted in order to examine the women empowerment in Kondoa District and recommend the appropriate ways in which women empowerment could be strengthened or achieved. The data were collected from 415 women among whom 214 were MFIs members whereas 201 were non-MFIs members. The empowerment of women engaged with MFIs was measured in five dimensions which are legal, economic, interpersonal, familial and political. The findings of the study show that women were empowered in economic, interpersonal and familial dimensions. There is no total empowerment among the surveyed women in Kondoa District. Based on the findings, it is recommended that more education should be provided to men in order to end the discriminatory practices in the society and patriarchal system of life. The women in the rural areas should be provided with financial services by the government in order to strengthen the operations of the SACCOS while financial institutions should expand their operations to the rural areas for more women to obtain loans.
