Item Motivations towards community participation in development projects: a case of Temeke municipal council, Tanzania(The University of Dodoma, 2012) Lyatuu, Martin F.The study tries to assess what motivates community members to participate in development projects in Temeke Municipal Council, study was conducted in three wards, Kisarawe II, Kibada and Kimbiji. Data were collected using structured and unstructured interviews, questionnaires and documentation. A total number of 75 respondents were involved in this study as representative sample. Results indicates that majority (79%) of the respondents were aware with the perception of community participation in development projects, compares to 21% who are not aware. The study concludes that the majority of the respondents are aware with the topic and the number is increasing every year due to several efforts from the two sides, the community and the government. Despite of the efforts to increase community participation, there are obstacles at the grassroots level such misuse of public funds that reduce community participation. Based on field findings, the study recommends sufficient financial resources should be provided at the right time in development sector for quantity and quality projects, partnership between the government and other stakeholders such as NGOs and CSOs in increasing the situation.
