Item ICT teaching and learning environment in teachers’ training: the case of diploma student-teachers in Tanzania(The University of Dodoma, 2015) Mkinga, Ndengati LouisState owned teachers‟ colleges in Tanzania have been teaching ICT to student-teachers in an environment that is more or less the same to all teachers‟ colleges. However, little is known about what exists in the ICT teaching and learning environment in the diploma teachers‟ colleges. This study assesses the ICT teaching and learning environment to see whether it matches the aims of introducing ICT to teacher training. The study used 280 respondents from five teachers‟ colleges. The data collected were analysed by using the statistical package, SPSS version 17. Findings indicated that 70% of the Internet connectivity in many teachers‟ colleges is poor. It cannot accommodate users‟ demand. Student-teachers‟ failure to get sufficient time to practice ICT skills in the computer lab due to insufficient number of computers in the lab and frequent power cuts that led to cancellation of practical sessions. The study concluded that ICT subject should be compulsory to all student-teachers and some improvements should be made in Internet connectivity, add more computers in the lab and review the ICT syllabus to cater the needs of the secondary school teachers.
