Item Investigating laptop battery lifespan as affected by charging practices(The University of Dodoma, 2018) Lupala, Dennis A.This study investigated laptop battery lifespan as affected by users charging practices. Laptop battery lifespan is the average length of life a laptop battery has or the duration if its effectiveness. Battery charging practices means the frequency by which a user plugs the machine in the electric source. The main purpose of the study was to investigate the two different laptop charging practices on how they affect the lifespan. The two laptop charging practices that concerned this study are Continuous Dual Mode (CDM) and Intermittent Mode (IM). Experimental and User survey approach. A sample size of 63 respondents (Academic staff) was used to be surveyed at the College of Informatics and Virtual Education (CIVE) of the University of Dodoma. Data collection was carried out by the use of pre-tested questionnaires and several experiments. Qualitative and quantitative data were gathered and analyzed by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Microsoft Excel Office 2007 in order to plot tables, bar and pie charts. The study established that, the public is aware of the usefulness of the intermittent charging mode for the extension of laptop battery life but only a few numbers of them are practicing this charging approach. After an in depth analysis the study also found that CDM decrease the battery lifespan as compared to intermittent approach. The study concludes that intermittent mode charging practice would be recommended as efficient approach to the use of laptop battery.
